I don’t know about you, but I am tired of snow and ready for spring! Our roads (and cars, and houses, and shoes…) are covered in snow and ice and slush and other various forms of winter yuck, and I’m so over it. I just want to be warm!
To that end, I made a deliciously long and cozy scarf. It was so easy and so quick, I knew it would be a perfect scarf pattern to share with all of you.
This pattern ranks as Beginner+ on our difficulty chart.

So grab your cocoa and your hook and curl up next to a big roaring fire–let’s start the pattern!
Tip: Crochet over your ends as you go! There’ll be less to weave in later–always a good thing!

Materials
- Roughly 300 yards of chunky or bulky weight yarn in the color of your choice (I used Ella Rae Classic Superwash Chunky in a beautiful dark greenish grey, which unfortunately didn’t photograph very well… I’ve also used Loops & Threads Charisma yarn before, and it worked great!)
- A size L/8.00mm crochet hook
- A yarn needle for weaving in ends
Pattern – Easy Ribbed Scarf
Row 1) Ch 151. Starting in the 2nd chain space from the hook, work 150 hdc. Ch 1 and turn.
If you want to make your scarf shorter, make fewer chains at the beginning.
Row 2) In BACK LOOPS ONLY, 150 hdc across the entire length of the scarf. Ch 1 and turn.
Continue to work in the back loops of every new row. This creates the ribbed effect.
Rows 3-10) 150 hdc. Ch 1 and turn.
Row 11) 150 hdc. Fasten off.
To make the fringe, simply cut lots of yarn in approximately 6″ strands. Insert your crochet hook, starting at one end of the scarf’s edge. With a single strand of yarn, fold the strand in half. Wrap the folded edge around your hook and pull up slightly through the loop. Then, with your fingers (or your hook, if you have super skills), pull the two ends of the yarn strand through the loop. Gently, pull to tighten.Repeat for as much fringe as you want. When you’re happy with your fringe, carefully use a pair of scissors to trim the edges and make them nice and neat.
See? Easy peasy!
I love the rich ribbed texture of this scarf so much, I want to make one in every color possible! Sadly, I don’t have enough closet space for that many scarves. Oh well!

Just look at that yummy texture!
The best part is that you can make this scarf over the course of a lazy Sunday afternoon. It makes a perfect gift for a loved one, or a cozy wardrobe addition for yourself! Enjoy!
